[ARCHIVED] Town of Snowmass Village EAB Awards Holy Cross Energy for Environmental Leadership

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 4, 2019 – Snowmass Village, CO – The Town of Snowmass Village Environmental Advisory Board presented Holy Cross Energy with the 6th annual Environmental Leadership Award at the Town Council meeting on Monday.

The Award was created in 2012 as a way to spotlight community best practices in environmental sustainability. The award is intended to not only recognize local leaders for their efforts but spotlight their actions so they can be replicated by other individuals and businesses in Snowmass Village.

Holy Cross Energy was chosen among several nominees to be the sole recipient of the 2019 award for their trailblazing efforts to increase their portfolio of renewable energy. Their past efforts have already resulted in a significant reduction of the community’s carbon emissions, and the Board would like to recognize their leadership.

NOMINATION:

The Town of Snowmass Village Environmental Advisory Board has nominated Holy Cross Energy to be the recipient of the 2019 Environmental Leadership Award, which honors individuals and organizations who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to sustainability.

Last year, the electric utility provider announced an ambitious target for carbon reduction, which will accelerate Snowmass Village’s transition to a low-carbon future. The “seventy70thirty” goal commits Holy Cross Energy to increase renewable electricity to 70% (from 39% currently) and reduce greenhouse gas emissions 70% as soon as 2030. All this, while continuing to maintain reliable and affordable electric service to the Snowmass Village community.

The utility has been dedicated partner in addressing our most pressing environmental challenges. This year, the Town signed a deal with Holy Cross Energy to get town facilities powered by fully renewable electricity, and the Town is working with the utility to install six renewable energy systems on town facilities. Together, Holy Cross Energy and Snowmass Village are making meaningful progress towards a more stable climate and thriving community.

Please help us thank Holy Cross Energy for being a leader in environmental sustainability and applaud them as the recipient of the 2019 Environmental Leadership Award.

Nominations for the 2020 award will accepted beginning in November, 2019. The nomination form and additional details about the selection criteria, background, and past recipients can be found online at www.tosv.com.
