Town of Snowmass Village Outperforms U.S. Average in Every Community Survey Category

Snowmass Village, Colo. – September 11, 2017 – The Town Council recently received a presentation full of good news and praise from the 2017 Community Survey Results. Jason Morado, a consultant from the ETC Institute, opened the presentation by telling the Town Council that Snowmass Village residents currently have a “very very positive perception of the Town.” He also went on to say that “overall, the satisfaction with Town services is much higher than we see in other places.”

These reactions came from the Town’s most recent iteration of their biennial Community Survey, conducted on the Town’s behalf by the ETC Institute. The Town collected responses throughout the month of July and part of August, and received a total of 891 completed surveys. The survey was available to all community members in the Town, including year-round residents, part-time residents, employees, and guests of Snowmass Village. Year-round Snowmass Village residents accounted for nearly half of the responses. 96% of the responses were from either full-time or part-time residents in Snowmass Village or the greater Roaring Fork Valley.

The Town received a 76% satisfaction rating for their “overall quality of services provided,” which ETC pointed out is 27% above the U.S. average. Other examples of high ratings included satisfaction with snow removal (91%), quality of life (89%), feeling of safety (95%), timely/punctual Village Shuttle service (93%), and overall street maintenance (89%). “89% satisfaction with overall street maintenance is one of the highest numbers we’ve seen. That is an area where most municipalities struggle” Morado added.

ETC’s report also highlighted trends in the survey, including a significant improvement in the sense of community. 85% of respondents indicated they felt the sense of community in Snowmass Village is improving or staying the same, compared to only 54% in 2015 and 48% in 2013. “That is much much better than in previous years,” Morado said. “The Town is moving in the right direction.”

The Town stated that they will be reviewing the results over the next several months in conjunction with the 2018 budget process.  “We are going to celebrate the positive results from the survey, but we will also be looking for opportunities for improvement.” Travis Elliott, Assistant to the Town Manager said when asked about the next steps with the Community Survey. Two opportunities for improvement that stood out to him included the overall amount of communication from the Town and availability of parking information. “We’re going to look at those and think of ways to improve them moving forward,” Elliott said. Those categories received a 54% and 48% satisfaction rating respectively.

The Town will be reviewing the survey results in detail with each department, along with the 2018 budget, later this year. The full report of results are posted online at www.tosv.com/survey.
