September 29, 2014—Snowmass Village, Colo.—The Town of Snowmass Village’s first public electric vehicle charging station is open at Town Park Station. The station was purchased thanks to a generous grant from Charge Ahead Colo., a joint program between the Colo. Energy Office and Regional Air Quality Council aimed at reducing harmful air pollutants.
The dual AC level two Eaton charging station is conveniently located next to the Transportation depot on Brush Creek Rd., providing easy access to the free Village Shuttle system. The station supports two simultaneous, independent charge sessions and can fully charge a vehicle’s batteries in as little as four hours.
The charging station supports the town’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions 20 percent by 2020. Electric vehicles or hybrid electric vehicles have several efficiency and environmental advantages over vehicles with internal combustion engines.
“As electric vehicles become more and more commonplace, we’re thrilled to be able to support this technology in our community with the necessary infrastructure,” said Anne Martens, Town of Snowmass Village Director of Public Works. “This has a long-term community benefit for our economy and environment.”
The community is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, October 3rd at 3:30 p.m. at Town Park Station, where, after charging up, local EV owners participating in the 2014 EV Rally of the Rockies, hosted by Clean Energy Economy for the Region (CLEER) will depart Snowmass Village to Carbondale.
