Winter Seasonal Trail Closures In EffectRespect Wildlife. Respect Seasonal Closures.
Local elk herds have been spotted moving into their winter ranges for the season, and the North Mesa and Sky Mountain Park areas and trails are now closed. These habitats provide critical food sources for wildlife during the most challenging times of the year, and the closures allow wildlife to negotiate winter conditions. Active Trail Closures

Winter Driving Tips Severe weather can be both frightening and dangerous for travelers. Winter storms, bad weather and sloppy road conditions are a factor in many crashes during the winter season in Colorado. Roads that are slippery with ice and snow can be difficult for even the most experienced driver. Before driving in Snowmass Village this winter, know that you can take precautions to help ensure safe travel throughout the village. Snowmass Village has a traction law that goes into effect with every winter storm. All vehicles are required to have snow tires or adequate traction when necessary. Tips for Driving in the Snow: - Drive slowly – Slippery roads reduce the amount of traction your tires have, and winter conditions make it more difficult to control a vehicle. Always adjust your speed down to account for lower traction when driving on snow or ice.
- Accelerate and decelerate slowly – Apply the gas slowly to regain traction and avoid skids. Don’t try to get moving in a hurry and take time to slow down for a stop and turns. Remember that tire traction diminishes on icy roads.
- Increase your following distance – Allow plenty of space between your car and other vehicles. This increased margin of safety will provide the longer distance needed if you have to stop.
- Don’t stop if you can avoid it – There’s a big difference in the amount of inertia it takes to start moving from a full stop versus how much it takes to get moving while still rolling.
- Don’t power up hills – Applying extra gas on snow-covered roads will just make your wheels spin. Try to get a little inertia going before you reach the hill and let that inertia carry you to the top. As you reach the crest of the hill, reduce your speed and proceed downhill slowly.
- Don’t stop going up a hill – There’s nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road. Get some inertia going on a flat roadway before you take on the hill.
- Stay home when possible– Only go out if necessary. Even if you can drive well in bad weather, it’s better to avoid taking unnecessary risks by venturing out.

Lower Kearns Road Culvert Project continues through winter. As the colder months approach, we want to keep you informed about the ongoing Lower Kearns Road Culvert Project, which will continue throughout the winter season.
Important Speed Limit Notice: The speed limit around the project area is set at 15 MPH. Please adhere to this limit for the safety of all involved.
To ensure safe driving during snowy conditions, delineators will be installed along the project route. These markers will provide a visual guide to the center line, helping drivers navigate effectively, especially during snow events. Lower Kearns Road will remain open throughout the winter, allowing residents to access this route without disruption. We kindly request that all drivers exercise caution and reduce their speed when entering the project area. Your vigilance and consideration will not only protect your safety but also ensure the safety of the hardworking project personnel.
Safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to improve our community's infrastructure. If you have any questions or concerns related to the Lower Kearns Road Culvert Project, please do not hesitate to contact us. Project updates...

Updated Leash Laws in Effect During a regular meeting on October 2, the Town Council adopted Ordinances 7 & 10, updating the Town’s leash laws and creating mandatory leash zones. Ordinance 2023-7 updates existing code language mandating that dogs must be on a leash in areas accessible to the public, to permit dogs to be off leash within the Town so long as the dog is within control of the dog owner by other means; and designating areas where all dogs must be leashed. Ordinance 2023-10 establishes those mandatory leash zones. The newly established mandatory leash zones will be in the following locations: - Rim Trail Area
