Short Term Rentals

During a regular meeting on June 6, 2022, Town Council discussed regulations for the operation of short-term rentals (STRs), also known as vacation rentals. The Council reached a consensus that any property owner intending to operate a short-term rental within the Town of Snowmass Village must register with the Town of Snowmass Village annually and comply with regulations. 

As the Town develops these regulations, Town Council has solicited feedback on the draft framework. A copy of the draft framework is available below:

What are Short-Term Rentals?

Short-term rental is a type of lodging wherein a dwelling unit, either in full or in part, is rented to a temporary occupant(s) for fewer than thirty (30) consecutive days. Often facilitated by peer-to-peer websites such as and, short-term rentals are most commonly residential properties available for rent. A bed and breakfast is sometimes considered a type of short-term rental.  

The Town of Snowmass Village will require hosts to obtain a license in order to offer a short-term rental as part of their property. 

Permits will require STR applicants to provide information regarding ownership, contact information, where the property is listed, number of bedrooms, and number of parking spaces.

The application fee for a short-term rental permit is not decided at this time. Any updates to the fee structure will be posted to this webpage.
