Fall Composting

Compost Your Fall Leaves

The Town provides a composting bin for fallen leaves at the Community Rodeo Grounds back parking lot each fall, approximately late September/early October.
Residents are encouraged to take their leaves to this composting station instead of the community dumpsters. We ask that property managers and landscaping companies that collect yard waste from multiple properties refrain from using the bin, as it is intended for residents to use for their private property.
The 2022 fall leaf composting bin is available on October 1. It will remain in place until weather permits. This composting bin is for fall leaves ONLY!

West Mountain Regional Housing Coalition

The Town of Snowmass Village recently became a charter member of the newly formed regional housing nonprofit, West Mountain Regional Housing Coalition (WMRHC).  The nonprofit grew out of a 2018 study of the Roaring Fork Valley that identified a need for as many as 3,000 housing units to meet the needs of businesses and the workforce.  Specific objectives of WMRHC from securing funding for housing programs, identifying sites for development, education, and promotion of housing policies and activities, and generally advocating for the Region’s unique housing needs.  Snowmass Village joins Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, Pitkin County, Eagle County, and Colorado Mountain College in this new, collaborative effort.

Back to School

Stop for the School Bus. It's the Law.

School is back in session, and the Snowmass Village Police Department watches school buses closely to ensure our children stay safe. Please make sure you do your part too by driving safely and following the law. Not stopping for a school bus can result in a fine and penalty of up to six (6) points against your license.

On a two-lane road without a separated median, traffic in both directions is required to stop for the bus. Traffic should begin to stop when the bus lights flash yellow. Traffic must remain stopped while the flashing red lights on the bus are present. Please take a minute and stop for the school bus. You can find details on the school bus stopping law in the Colorado Drivers Handbook.

Winter is Coming

Be Ready for Winter Driving Conditions

Winter driving conditions are just around the corner. Colorado and Snowmass Village traction laws require vehicles have snow tires, traction devices, or AWD capabilities from September 1st - May 31st. In addition to having adequate snow tires, there are several things you can do to be prepared for winter roads:

Winter Driving Tips:

  • Find your ice scraper and keep it handy. Thoroughly clean snow and ice from your windshield, windows, mirrors, and lights before driving
  • Make sure you have plenty of de-icer windshield wiper fluid
  • Check your windshield wipers, and replace them if they are worn or cracking
  • Pack a winter safety kit with things like water, extra warm clothes, a flashlight, and a sleeping bag
  • Keep your gas tank at least half full
  • Drive carefully when icy conditions are present.
  • Approach intersections slowly, and double-check for traffic and pedestrians before pulling out into an intersection or roadway.
  • Never crowd the plow. Give them space to work.
  • Don’t tailgate other vehicles. Allow for plenty of space between vehicles in case traffic slows or comes to a stop.
  • You can also catch a ride with the Village Shuttle. Drivers work hard to keep shuttles running during snow storms. And... It's free!
