Top Activities for the Kiddos This Winter

Posted on December 3, 2013 at 9:39 AM by Kelly Vaughn

As a (relatively) new mom, I am constantly looking for winter activities to keep my daughter entertained, and make it up to her when I spend the morning skiing. Snowmass Village has always been well-known as a family-friendly ski resort for good reasons. Fortunately, even as you branch out beyond the mountain, there's plenty to do this winter with the little ones. Here's a few of our favorite activities for families.

Programs

The Treehouse
This one seems obvious, but it wasn't until I had a baby that I became aware that The Treehouse not only offers lessons, activities, and childcare for kids ranging from eight weeks to four years. It's great to have such a state-of-the-art facility at the base of our mountain. Learn more

The Snowmass Recreation Center
Not only is the Recreation Center's pool open year-round, but they also offer winter kid's camps and programs for ages 5-14 which feature arts and crafts, games, swimming, climbing and much more. With a drop-in fee of only $35, this is one of the most affordable options in Town if you want someone to watch over your little one while you hit the treadmill or the ski slopes. Learn more

Anderson Ranch
This world-renowned art center offers winter children's programs at Base Village starting December 18 - March 28. Kids ages 4-8 can participate in different art-themed workshops three days-per-week taught by professional art teachers. Learn more

Snowmass Chapel
The Chapel not only hosts holiday community-wide events for families such as the upcoming tree lighting ceremony, they also provide a variety of great programs for children year-round. Mom's Day Out (free babysitting), a children's Christmas Pageant, and story time are just a few of their ongoing programs. Learn more

Ice Age Discovery Center
Bring the kids along to learn about the discovery of ice age fossils at Ziegler Reservoir, watch a scientist from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science piece together fossils excavated at the site, and participate in kids storytelling Wednesdays through the ski season from 3:30 - 4:30. Learn more

Events

Holiday Songs and Carols
Join carolers on the Snowmass Mall and Base Village on December 24 all day and take part in a Snowmass Village Tradition. Learn more

Kids Sing-a-Long and S'mores by the Fire
This complimentary event for kids and families features delicious s'mores, a singing cowboy, and a cozy fire. This perfect apres-ski option runs Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the ski season from 3:30-4:30 at the Westin Snowmass Resort fire pit. Learn more

Torchlight Parade and Fireworks
Whether viewer or participant, the annual Torchlight Parade down Snowmass’ slopes on December 28 looks magnificently luminous! Moms, dads and kids ages eight and older are invited to be part of the trail of light down the mountain. Stick around as pyrotechnics illuminate the night sky immediately afterward. Learn more
