At tonight's Town Council meeting, Council-members will consider an emergency ordinance enacting a moratorium prohibiting marijuana facilities--medical or retail--from popping up in Snowmass Village.
This is in response to a state mandated deadline of October 1 for municipalities to either enact an ordinance adopting regulations for licensing of retail marijuana establishments, OR opt out of Amendment 64 completely and prohibit retail marijuana shops.
Per his memo to Council
, Town Attorney John Dresser recommends that Council enacts the emergency ordinance in order to comply with the state mandate, and prohibit marijuana shops in the Town through July 1, 2014 to allow time to analyze the best path forward and receive adequate input from the community.
To date, the Town has not received any applications for recreational or medical marijuana establishments, as noted by a recent story in the Aspen Times
What do you think? Should the Town allow marijuana establishments? Weigh in below.
