Did you know that the Town has an Environmental Advisory Board to help drive sustainability in Snowmass? The EAB is a collaborative group committed to
updating and accomplishing the goals of the town’s Environmental Sustainability Plan. The board provides technical expertise and a broad
community perspective in order to develop recommendations concerning
projects, programs, policies, and operational practices that benefit the
natural environment, the local economy, and community. Learn more about board accomplishments from the past year.
Encouraging Home Energy Audits
In late 2011, the EAB set a goal to have 50 energy audits completed in the Town of Snowmass Village in 2012. By working with CORE, the Board exceeded that goal. Between 2011 and January 1, 2013, 68 assessments in Snowmass Village were performed. Additionally, in the same time period there were 19 assessments of multi-family units. Thank you to all of the Snowmass Village residents and property managers that had assessment, and we hope to keep the momentum going in 2013.
Being Water Wise
The EAB worked with the Snowmass Water & Sanitation District to advise and support the District's work on the Source Water Assessment and Protection Program, Water Conservation Plan, and the Ziegler Reservoir expansion.
Reducing Waste and Educate Concert Goers
This summer, the EAB brought recycling to Snowmass Thursday night concerts. This effort was intended to serve as a pilot program for a more robust and long-term waste and energy reduction strategy for Town events. We look forward to updating you on additional details soon.
Launching the New Environmental Award
The EAB has created an environmental award to celebrate businesses or organizations located or operating in Snowmass Village for leadership and commitment to environmental stewardship. The award criteria and application are available on this website
. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 18.
Searching for an Efficiency/Renewable Energy Solution
Proposals resulting from an RFP seeking an efficiency/renewable energy solution to offset Town energy costs will come in on September 9. Next, the steering committee
of local energy experts as well as members of the EAB will vet proposals and deliver a list of the top three both to the public and Council for discussion.
Driving Community Awareness
The EAB is facilitating greater community awareness of the environment. Weekly ads feature “Sustainable Snowmass Tips,” and this website has more information about what the Town is doing or has done to protect the environment
, includes tips to reduce your impact
, and even includes a carbon calculator
to raise awareness.
