This past week, you may have noticed crews clearing brush in several Snowmass Village neighborhoods. Thanks to a collaboration between the Snowmass Homeowner's Association, the Snowmass Wildcat Fire Protection District
, and Pitkin County Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Darryl Grob, a wildfire mitigation project is wrapping up after a week-long effort from dedicated staff and volunteers.
The Snowmass Wildcat Fire Protection District has identified the project area detailed in the map below has been identified as a moderate to high risk area with high priority for mitigation of fuel loads (i.e. brush, dead trees, etc.). It's expected that this initial project will serve as an example that will be repeated on an annual basis to other local high risk areas to improve public safety and reduce the potential for large property losses in the event of a wildfire.
