Snowmass Village and the entire upper Roaring Fork Valley is a hiking and biking mecca. Our expansive trails network that covers and connects Aspen, Pitkin County, and Snowmass Village provides options for all skill levels and many different user groups. But, whether you’re a long-time local or just visiting town for the weekend, choosing the right trail for you AND navigating that trail once you get there can be challenging.
Trail wayfinding has been a top priority by our Parks, Recreation, and Trails Department (see our last Annual Report) and, thanks to powerful local partnerships and a generous donor, a new tool is now available to help trail users enjoy our world class network and other outdoor amenities.
Pitkin Outside is a user-friendly webpage and accompanying mobile app developed by GreenInfo Networks allows users to search local recreational opportunities, including hiking and biking trails, via a computer or smart device.
The app will work with your mobile device’s GPS navigation capabilities so you’ll always be able to locate yourself in the field. For days when your adventure takes you beyond cell phone coverage, you can simply download the map for the section or area you’ll need for the day, which will still work with your device’s GPS when no cell phone or internet service is available.
Whether on a computer or mobile device, you can choose between satellite and topographic maps, search for trailheads, filter results, view a trail’s level of difficulty, and much more.
